Identify the material first
Check the company, material name, grade reference and document date. Documents should be relevant to the proposed supply. A general company certificate and a material-specific test report answer different questions and should not be treated as interchangeable.
Read the test conditions
Values only become useful comparisons when units, test methods and conditions are understood. Ask for clarification where conditions are missing. Do not assume that two figures measured differently establish equivalent performance.
Check the scope of a claim
A statement about one grade, colour or specimen thickness may not apply to another. For restricted substances or flame performance, discuss the exact requirement with the supplier and check the supporting evidence. A website product category is not a substitute for the required report.
Keep a record with the purchase
Retain the agreed specification, quotation, material reference and relevant documents with your purchase records. Record sample and trial references as well, so that future discussions refer to the material that was actually evaluated.
